Best Junior Drum Set (3-10 years)

It’s important to nurture your child’s musical side, and if they’re showing signs of musical talent and interest, then it’s a good idea to invest in something like a drum set to help them express themselves.

Whilst you should consider a quality drum set for your child, you almost certainly won’t need an adult drum set just yet. The Junior drum sets featured are ideal for any child starting at around three or four, up to around ten or eleven years old. If your child is still enjoying playing drums towards the latter end of that age gap, then you’ll want to invest in an adult drum set as they enter their teenage years. Whilst you likely won’t need anything too advanced, a good beginner drum set should be perfect for those entering adulthood.

But, what about the Junior age range? Well, the drum sets aimed at this range are generally quite a bit smaller, which suits a smaller child. Whilst they are smaller, many of them do not lack in quality; in fact, some of the junior drum sets that we’ve listed certainly match the adult versions in terms of quality!

In the table below, you’ll find the 6 competitors for the best junior drum set. We’ll go a little deeper further down the page, and have a better look at what makes each set worthy of making our list.

Gammon 5-Piece Starter Drum Kit

[easyazon_image align=”center” height=”210″ identifier=”B0033290CQ” locale=”US” src=”” tag=”cledrums-20″ width=”300″]

This Gammon 5-piece starter drum kit is ideal for any junior who is looking to get themselves their first drum kit. Slightly more advanced than some of the other options on the market, this drum kit is a great choice if you’re stepping up into the higher quality starter drum kit. Of course, as you might expect, with the increase in quality comes a slight increase in price, too.

Although it is a tad more expensive than the lower end junior drum sets, you’re certainly getting a much higher quality drum set. Gammon are renowned in the drumming industry for producing some great quality drum sets, and this one is no different. It is a five piece drum set, with additional drumsticks, cymbals and an included drum throne.

Gammon are known for being extremely responsive to their customers, so you can be assured that if you do have any issues with your product, then they will do their best to resolve the issue for you. Is this the best junior drum set? We certainly think it’s up there.

GP Percussion 5-Piece Junior Drum Set with Cymbals

In our eyes, this is the best junior drum set for those that are concerned with style and much as practicality. It is almost completely blacked out, making it stylish and cool in appearance. If you think yuor child might prefer something with a sense of fashion, then this would be a great option.

It’s also fantastic in terms of practicality, too. It’s a five piece similar to the Gammon drum set, though at the time of writing, the price is slightly lower than its counterpart. This is surprising, seeing as the difference in quality isn’t too much between the two drum sets. GP Percussion as a brand are as reputable as Gammon, so again, you won’t need to worry about your drum set breaking too easily.

This drum set is not so much a toy, more of an actually miniature drum set. If your child seems like they’re serious about wanting to learn how to drum properly, then this would be an awesome option for them to express their musical talent.

Ludwig Junior 5 Piece Drum Set

[easyazon_image align=”center” height=”300″ identifier=”B002ID0ROG” locale=”US” src=”” tag=”cledrums-20″ width=”300″]

If you’re looking for a cheapy drum set that will do for a few years, or a few weeks until your child has got tired of thinking they want to be a drummer, then this drum set isn’t for you. It’s over twice the cost of some of the other drum sets that we have listed, so avoid this one if you’re looking for a budget drum set.

Though the extra cost is mainly because it’s made by Ludwig, the Grand-daddy of drum sets. Ludwig haven’t always produced drum sets for the younger generation, but they have given in to popular demand and a while ago now they started producing drum sets like this one. This isn’t really a toy; it’s an actual miniature version of a full, quality drum set. So, we feel that the extra price is certainly vindicated.

it has a 16″ bass drum, which is a great size for an older junior. The two toms are both 8 inches and 10 inches in height. Check out the video below for a more in depth look at the drum set;

Spectrum 3-Piece Junior Drum Set

If you think that a full five piece drum set might be a bit advanced for your junior, then a good idea is to get them started on a simple three piece drum set. It’s a great idea if you’re looking to save on cost too, as they usually run at a much lower price than their 5 piece counterparts.

Whilst we wouldn’t recommend this set for an older child, it’s a fantastic size for anywhere from older toddler of around 3 years old to 8 years old. When you think about the time span that you can get from a drum set like this, then it’s actually worth every penny! This three piece also comes with an 8 inch cymbal that is attached, and a bass drum pedals for when your child wants to let loose!

Another great thing about going for a 3 piece drum set instead of a 5 piece drum set is that it is easier to put away and saves quite a bit of space in your home. In fact, if you want to pack it up completely you’d be surprised at how small the packaging the drum sets come in is!

Mendini by Cecilio 5-Piece Junior Drum Set

[easyazon_image align=”center” height=”300″ identifier=”B004Z8ORXO” locale=”US” src=”” tag=”cledrums-20″ width=”300″]

Mendini by Cecilio are extremely well known for making all different types of instruments. Their percussion products are of a high quality, and it seems that haven’t spared any of that quality when they made this drum set targeted at juniors.

Named as an ‘all-in-one’ set, this is because of the attached cymbal and drum that might usually be separate are all part of the same drum set. This makes moving the drum set around extremely easy, and actually makes the set up effortless. This is perfect for christmas morning as you don’t want to be spending all your time setting up a complex drum set!

This drum set comfortably manages to combine a high quality product with a decent price. What we probably like most about this drum set though is that it’s available in various different metallic colors; we like the metallic blue the best!

Extremely similar to the other drum set above, the only different is that this is a three piece drum set. The other set is a five piece and would certainly be a better option for an older junior, but we decided to include this one incase you’re looking for something a little bit simpler.

It comes with a 10 inch cymbal and a 10 inch high hat. With the adjustable drum throne, this is a good size that will be adjustable for children of any age. Whilst it’s important not to get a drum set that is too large for your child, you would rather get a drum set that is too large than too small. This way, at least your child can grow into their drum set.

Whilst this isn’t the highest quality drum set available, it would be a good choice for any younger child who’s looking to get into playing the drums.
